BOAT & FUN BERLIN enters the boating exhibition season on the crest of a wave
Berlin, 4 November 2015 – BOAT & FUN BERLIN, the Berlin boating exhibition which will be taking place from 26 to 29 November 2015, reflects the capital’s overall trend as a booming city. In Hall 3, which showcases motor yachts and chartered yachts, the number of boats on display has risen by 30 per cent compared to last year, and for boats measuring over 35 feet in length the figure has even increased to 50 per cent.
Europe’s volume manufacturers Bavaria, Jeanneau, Beneteau, Galeon and Delphia will all be represented with boats measuring over 40 feet in length. Dutch boat builders will be strongly represented with large boats, with brand names such as Abim, Davinci, de Boarnstream, Brandsma, Jetten, Linssen and Serious.
The rush for places on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds mirrors the findings of a study carried out by the Hamburg-based economic research institute HWWI in October 2015.
The institute, a leader in its field, ranked Berlin second behind Munich in a table of cities forecast to have excellent future prospects. Leipzig, where water sports are gaining popularity, was ranked third.
Daniel Barkowski, the project manager of BOAT & FUN BERLIN: “Many European companies supplying the water sports industry are staking their claim on the market Berlin. Current booking levels, the highest for many years, are in keeping with the results of a recent study under the heading of ’The economic effects of water tourism in the Berlin/Brandenburg region’, which noted positive growth in every area and a considerable willingness on the part of companies to invest.“
According to Max Hiller, managing director of Wirtschaftverband Wassersport, “almost everyone, including boat dealers, boat builders, marinas, charter companies and accessory suppliers, has benefited from the latest developments.“ He added that it was impossible to ignore the many boat owners from southern and western Germany, Switzerland, Austria and the Netherlands who have now moved to the region between the Elbe and Baltic, Europe’s largest region of rivers, lakes and waterways. “Our large marinas are now renting out over 30 per cent of their berths to boat owners from areas outside eastern Germany. Among older water sports enthusiasts many are now swapping their sailing boat for a motor yacht and taking it onto lakes and waterways rather than to the Baltic or Mediterranean.“
