Berlin, 22 November 2019 – The presentation of the Best of Boats Award has taken place on 21 November 2019 at BOAT & FUN BERLIN 2019. Over the course of the 2019 boating season, the 18 journalists tested over 150 models from this year’s range of new boats. The international panel of judges are from 16 different countries. One of the main factors for the jury were how innovative the boats are.

In this year’s edition of the Best of Boats Award the Best-for-Future-Award was added to the five familiar categories. At yesterday’s presentation ceremony the trophies were handed to the six individual winners, for whom BOAT & FUN BERLIN specially rolled out the red carpet.

Before the ceremony began Stefan Gerhard, founder of the BOB Award, underlined that ”everybody of the 22 finalists are already winners, because they are nominated. The Best of Boats Award only honours genuinely innovative boats in their respective category“.

”It is a great pleasure to see leading international boatbuilders here at the Best of Boats Award“, said Daniel Barkowski, the project manager for BOAT & FUN BERLIN, welcoming the visitors from all around Europe. “BOAT & FUN BERLIN continues to grow and is becoming an increasingly important event both at home and abroad“, stated Daniel Barkowski.

Winners in the 2019 Best of Boats Award categories

In the Best for Beginners category the winner was the Silver Tiger BRz & DC. Kerstin Zillmer, editor-in-chief of the online magazine ‘float’ from Berlin, presented the award to Christoffer Wallgren of the Finnish boatbuilder Silver Boats thanked her with the following words: “It feels fantastic to be holding this trophy. It is a great honour for us to receive a BOB Award – and to be recognised for the quality of our boats“.

In the Best for Fishing category it was the Jeanneau Merry Fisher 605 Marlin which impressed the judges most. Catina Burchardi of Aquamarin Boote along with Merry de la Poëze, Jeanneau’s long-standing product manager for motorboats who gave his name to this model, were presented with the prize. She said: ”This award is especially important for us because with the Merry Fisher it recognises a range that is very popular in Germany, and not just among anglers but with other customers as well, families for instance.“

Alfred Boer, who tests boats for the magazines ’Nautique’ (Netherlands) and ’Varen’ (Belgium), presented the Best for Family award to Espen Aalrud, director of Marex Boats from Norway, for the Marex 360 CC. ”This prize means a lot to us“, said Espen Aalrud. ”It is recognition for our team and everyone who played a part in designing and building this boat. I would also like to thank our customers for their good suggestions and ideas. This prize is a kind of seal of approval that tells us we did everything right.”

According to the panel member Arek Rejs of the Polish magazine ’Wiatr’, one of the main criteria in the Best for Fun category was that a boat should have ample room for activities together with friends. That was not the only reason why the Frauscher 1414 Demon Air, an innovative boat and the largest among the nominees, was the winner. Stefan Frauscher, director of the Austrian boatbuilding company:  ”For us, this award is recognition for the work of our entire team. At Frauscher 70 people worked hard to achieve this success. Our idea has always been to make an impact on the world of boats. This award shows we achieved that.”

The US journalist Zuzana Prochazka presented the award in the Best for Travel category to Franz Böse of Silent Yachts for the Solaryacht Silent Yachts 55. ”We feel especially honoured to receive this prize because the panel judging this international award represents so many countries. We are glad that Silent Yachts has such an international appeal“, said Franz Böse in his acceptance speech.

Stefan Gerhard, founder of the Best of Boats Award, presented the newly created Best for Future award which honours innovative technology in combination with new sustainability concepts. The winner was the Candela Seven, an electric hydrofoil from Sweden. Gustav Hasselskog, CEO of Candela, said: ”Four and a half years ago I built this company from nothing, so it really is a great honour to receive this award. It means a great deal to me and my team. We worked very hard to get here, and that makes me and my team very proud.”
