BOAT & FUN BERLIN 2019 exceeds expectations with a new attendance record

More than 50,000 visitors attended BOAT & FUN BERLIN, a new record for the leading meeting place for water sports enthusiasts – the new concept with MOTORWORLD Classics was a big success

Berlin, 27 November 2019 - The 50,700 visitors who attended BOAT & FUN BERLIN, which for the first time took place on 85,000 square metres and in 14 halls, witnessed a unique spectrum of various boat categories, popular muscle-powered outdoor activities, innovative vehicles, rare classic cars and a large range of accessories. The wide-ranging 2019 event also displayed industry innovations. 14 boats marked their debut at BOAT & FUN BERLIN 2019, more than at any previous show. One made its first appearance on the world stage, five were shown for the first time in Germany, and eight for the first time in the local region. The event attracted greater international attention than in previous years, with exhibitors from 16 countries in attendance. This was the first time that exhibitors from Ireland, Croatia, Lithuania, Russia and Slovakia took part. The growth of the fair reflected its international standing. “816 exhibitors and brands at BOAT & FUN BERLIN marked a new high point for this event“, said Daniel Barkowski, the project manager for BOAT & FUN BERLIN. “The growth in exhibitor numbers and the new attendance record demonstrated how important it is for the water sports industry“, he added. This year’s BOAT & FUN BERLIN was outstanding – it featured an impressive opening event on the eve of the fair, the MOTORWORLD Classics, motorboats and sailing boats at hub27, the new event hall, as well as activities for water sports enthusiasts of all ages.

Mobility on land and water

This was the first time that BOAT & FUN BERLIN and MOTORWORLD Classics were held as parallel events, combining the best of both worlds across the ages in a fascinating manner. Visitors were able to enjoy the unique experience of both classic boats and cars. The GALA NIGHT OF THE BOATS & CLASSIC CARS – a unique selling point of the fair – offered a festive introduction to the event.

At AUTOTAGE BERLIN visitors were able to admire the latest in urban mobility. Covering around 6,000 square metres, some 20 carmakers presented the automotive industry’s latest trends and innovations. A special, recurring feature of the car show was that visitors were able to test drive numerous models on the famous motorway stretch called the ‘AVUS’.

The whole world of water sports

Located at the heart of Europe’s largest region for water sports activities, BOAT & FUN BERLIN impressed 50,700 visitors with an unprecedented range of displays. Each of the 14 halls lured visitors to a different world of water sports. Fans of classic boats, fast-moving water sports, muscle-powered activities, angling and an outdoor lifestyle found everything they could wish for at the event. BOAT & FUN BERLIN 2019 had its sights set on the future, placing an even greater emphasis on sustainability. Numerous exhibitors, including in the E-Boat section, showed that protecting the climate and water sports can go hand in hand. The additional displays of AngelWelt and AngelBoot rounded off the comprehensive programme of events.

Exhibitors’ views on BOAT & FUN BERLIN 2019

Haubold Yachting – Andreas Haubold

“This year’s BOAT & FUN BERLIN is better than the last event. I think the concept has improved, and we had better customers. We have been coming to Berlin for almost 40 years and in that time have been to every boating exhibition.“

Marinepool – Christian Zerlin

“This was our second time as exhibitors at BOAT & FUN and it was better than last year. We were able to sell more on the Wednesday and Thursday. The prospects are good and if it continues we will definitely be back next year.”

Sportbootshandel Johannsen – Markus Johannsen

“We had a different quality of visitor this year due to the car show. Due to the presentations in hub27 we had completely different customers, and because of the passageway to the classic boat displays the quality of customers was very good.”

VANCLAES – Daniel Uhlig

“We are satisfied and up to now have had good talks. At BOAT & FUN we are able to find new customers who come to us for our normal boating business and because we sell our products in the region.”

OUTMAR – Holger Kellermann

“We have lots of customers in Berlin who were glad we came here for the first time. Our sales figures were good and so was our feedback. Many people registered our name and took home calling cards, so we were satisfied with the number of visitors and response.”

Spreeboote –  Matthias Prillwitz

“Being here was worth it for our rental business. Lots of Berliners, particularly from Wannsee and Potsdam, had no idea we existed and said they would hire from us and wanted to keep in touch.”

Yachtzentrum Damp  –  Harald Klingler

“I think that compared with other regional fairs the Berlin event has evolved very well. Combining it with a car show attracted a lot of visitors. We want to pick up even more customers next year.”

Seaside Boats – Kira Dederichs

“We sold two boats directly at the fair and secured five to six potential interests which we will follow up after the event. The fair is also a place to network, where we meet lots of familiar faces from the boating industry.”

Segel Auto Boote – Ralf Segel

“The fair went very well for us. There were huge crowds. The Gala Night was the best event as far as we were concerned. That is where we meet potential customers and also have pre-arranged talks with lots of customers who then specifically come to us.”

KLINK Autoboote – Carsten Klink

“The fair was a big success for us. It always adds to the atmosphere to be next to the classic car displays. Repairing and restoring is a big part of our business too, so that was a fitting aspect. We had lots of interesting meetings.”

Die Bootswerft – Marcus Rogozinski

“We had interested talks, some of them with people who were genuinely interested in a particular boat. The Berlin area is of interest to us as regards customers, even if we are 400 kilometres away. Being here in the hall with the classic boat displays next door to the hall with classic cars created synergies. I can see us coming back again.”

Sportboot Center Hannover – Kalle Thiele

“Our first BOAT & FUN was very enjoyable. We had good talks and were able to conclude sales. We exchanged views with visitors and were able to get an impression of what customers want in order to meet their needs. We will be back next year.”

Inter Yacht West – Sebastian Fresnak

The fair has evolved in a positive way. I was very satisfied with the number of visitors. There were all kinds of different people. Getting visitors interested in water sports is one of the things a fair is about.”

D.H.W. Yachtcharter – Wilfried Schröder

“The fair has evolved in a positive way. It has expanded, the atmosphere is better and it features new activities. Our experiences were completely different each day. We had very positive, in-depth talks that will also produce good follow-up business.” – Oliver Ochse

“It was a pleasant fair, as always. This year my impression was that there were lots more visitors. No doubt that had to do with the classic car show. It was a great feeling to be at a boating exhibition where there were so many sailing boats with their sails set. That is something not often seen at fairs and it made for a nice atmosphere.”
